Millbury Reminds Dog Owners: Register Pets Before July 1 Deadline
DATELINE — MILLBURY
With the July 1 dog registration deadline just days away and summer reading programs now in full swing at the public library, Millbury residents have a pair of action items to check off before the holiday weekend.
TOWN HALL
Dog owners in Millbury have until Tuesday, July 1, to register their pets and avoid a late fee. The town is reminding residents to complete registration before the deadline. Details are available through the town's official website at millburyma.gov.
Also on the town's radar: the Central Region of Massachusetts remains at a Significant Drought Level following a declaration by Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper on May 8, 2026. The designation reflects improved but still-watchful conditions statewide, and residents are encouraged to be mindful of water use heading into the summer months.
The town's Farmers Market, which returned to the Asa Waters Mansion on June 18, continues to offer local wares and live entertainment. No additional dates were specified in current town postings, but residents should check millburyma.gov for the schedule.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Millbury Public Library's summer reading program is now under way, having kicked off the week of June 22. Children ages 0 through 11, teens, and adults each have their own track — participants read, log their progress, and earn prizes along the way. Special events require separate registration.
The library held a petting zoo kickoff event on June 23 and a murder mystery event on June 24 for different age groups. The library is also highlighting a media literacy feature on its homepage — a video series on how to spot AI-generated fake news and videos, tied to the NewsGuard Academy program.
Residents should note the library will be closed Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day. Regular hours otherwise are Monday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
SCHOOLS
The Millbury Public Schools district's June 2026 edition of "The Woolie Way" newsletter is out, welcoming families to the 2026–2027 school year and wishing them a strong start to summer. Separately, registration is now open for the sixth-grade Nature's Classroom fall trip; families may submit forms at Shaw Elementary School Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by email. The Elmwood Street School Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, June 30.
