Rutland Cuts Town Hall and Library Hours Starting July 1
DATELINE: RUTLAND
With just days to go before new operating hours take effect at both Town Hall and the Rutland Free Public Library, residents should plan ahead before the Fourth of July holiday weekend arrives.
TOWN HALL
Starting July 1, Town Hall and the Town Annex will operate on reduced hours. The town has posted a formal announcement flagging the change, though the specific new schedule was not detailed in the press release headline. Residents with time-sensitive business — permits, payments, or other in-person transactions — are encouraged to visit the town's website at townofrutland.org or call 508-886-4100 to confirm hours before making the trip.
Separately, the town has issued an official statement regarding this year's Fourth of July festivities. The announcement, headlined as an "Important Announcement - 2026 4th of July Festivities," signals that residents should read the official guidance before making plans. A 4th of July Pancake Breakfast is also on the calendar, giving residents a community way to start the holiday.
The town is also seeking volunteers for a new ADA Commission and has flagged changes within its Inspectional Services Department. Residents interested in joining the ADA Commission can find information through the town's News & Announcements page.
On the meeting calendar, the Bylaw Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, June 30.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Rutland Free Public Library is also moving to reduced hours beginning July 1. Under the new schedule driven by budget restrictions, the library will be open Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays noon to 8 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cuts trim hours from the current Tuesday-through-Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. schedule and shorten the Friday window considerably. Library Director Kerry Remington can be reached at kerry@rutlandlibrary.org, and the library's main number is 508-886-4108.
Residents who rely on the library for evening access on Tuesdays or for Friday afternoon visits should take note — those windows are getting shorter starting next week.
