The town has confirmed the Transfer Station will be shut on Saturday, July 4, and Stevens Memorial Library is sitting on a $20,000 federal grant aimed at building food literacy skills for residents of all ages.

TOWN HALL

Residents who typically make a weekend run to the Transfer Station on the Fourth of July will need to plan ahead this year. The facility at will be fully closed on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in observance of the federal holiday, according to a notice posted by the town. The next available drop-off opportunity will follow the regular schedule after the holiday weekend.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

Stevens Memorial Library has been provisionally awarded a $20,000 Library Services and Technology Act grant through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The grant funds a program called "At the Table: Food Literacy from the Ground Up," which will support library programs and resources designed to help Ashburnham residents build lifelong food-literacy skills. Library Director Jess Mynes and her staff will use the funding to develop programming for patrons across age groups, reinforcing the library's role as a community hub at 20 Memorial Drive.

Separately, the library recently published its FY26–FY29 Strategic Plan, which lays out updated objectives drawn from conversations with community stakeholders. The plan builds on the previous strategic framework and guides the library's direction through fiscal year 2029.
