Millbury Awarded $229,293 State Grant to Build Municipal Fiber Network

DATELINE — MILLBURY

The town of Millbury has secured a $229,293 Community Compact Fiber Grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to build out a municipal fiber network, the most consequential announcement crossing the News Flash feed this cycle.

TOWN HALL

The Commonwealth awarded Millbury a $229,293 Community Compact Fiber Grant to fund a new municipal fiber network. The grant positions the town to improve connectivity for municipal operations, though further details on project scope and timeline have not yet been published on the town's website.

Also on the town's radar: dog owners have until July 1 to register their pets and avoid a late fee. Registration can be handled through Town Hall at 127 Elm Street.

The Farmers Market at the Asa Waters Mansion, which returned on June 18, continues to offer local wares and live entertainment on a weekly basis.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Millbury Public Library's Summer Reading Program is now underway, having launched June 22 with a petting zoo kickoff June 23 and a murder mystery event June 24. Residents of all ages — children through adults — can sign up to read and earn prizes, with additional special events scheduled throughout the summer that require separate registration. The library will be closed Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day.

SCHOOLS

The Millbury Public Schools district newsletter for June 2026 — "The Woolie Way" — welcomes families to the 2026–2027 school year and wishes them a good start to summer. Separately, sixth-grade families are reminded that registration forms for the fall Nature's Classroom trip are now being accepted; forms can be dropped off at Shaw Elementary School Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or submitted by email.
