Select Board Calls Special Town Meeting for June 16

The Select Board's call for a Special Town Meeting on Tuesday, June 16 puts residents on a four-day clock ahead of what is shaping up to be the week's pivotal civic moment, arriving alongside separate news that both the town and the public library will trim their hours beginning July 1.

TOWN HALL

The Select Board has scheduled a Special Town Meeting for Tuesday, June 16. The Finance Committee and Select Board are both calendared to meet the same evening. Full warrant details are posted on the town's CivicAlerts page at https://www.rutlandma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=258. Residents are encouraged to review the warrant before attending.

The town has also posted several other active announcements this week. Town Hall and the Town Annex will move to reduced hours of operation beginning July 1; residents should check the town website for the updated schedule before making in-person visits this summer. Separately, the town has released an official statement regarding this year's Fourth of July festivities — details are available on the town homepage. The town is also actively recruiting for two volunteer positions: an associate member on the Planning Board and a founding seat on a newly formed ADA Commission. Anyone interested in either role can find information through the town's employment and volunteer opportunities page.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Rutland Free Public Library at 280 Main St. is signaling its own belt-tightening. Due to budget restrictions, Library Director Kerry Remington has posted revised hours that take effect July 1. Under the new schedule, Tuesday hours shorten from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. to 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Thursday shifts to a noon–8 p.m. window instead of opening at 10; Friday closes at 1 p.m. rather than 4 p.m.; and Saturday hours drop from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. to 10 a.m.–1 p.m. (Saturday closures between Memorial Day and Labor Day remain in effect). Wednesday is the one slot that holds steady at 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Patrons with questions can reach the library at 508-886-4108.
