Select Board Sends ZBA Letter Urging Scrutiny of 48-Unit Adams Street 40B Project

WINCHENDON — June 1, 2026 — Winchendon Select Board formally urges the Zoning Board of Appeals to press hard on conditions for a proposed 48-unit affordable housing project on Adams Street. The board voted unanimously Monday to adopt a comment letter to the ZBA regarding the Village Off Main development, a Chapter 40B affordable housing application, asking the ZBA to rigorously negotiate terms addressing traffic on Main Street and Adams Street, public safety demands on police and fire, neighborhood character, buffering for abutters, and environmental mitigation. The letter also flags 10 requested local zoning and subdivision waivers and calls for each to be reviewed publicly. The board separately accepted an $800,000 bond anticipation note for water storage tank improvements, sold to Greenfield Cooperative Bank on May 27 at 3.15 percent interest, and authorized seasonal payroll for summer parks and recreation staff including Crocker Pond attendant Abigail Sinati and four recreation counselors in training.
