Schools Post First Student Bus Strike Alert; City Hall Closes Friday for Juneteenth
LEOMINSTER — The Leominster Public Schools district is carrying a prominent alert about a First Student bus strike, the most consequential item for families to watch this week, while City Hall prepares to close Friday for Juneteenth with no disruption to curbside trash service.
TOWN HALL
City Hall will be closed Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. The city is clear that curbside trash and recycling collection runs on its normal schedule that day — no delay.
Four public meetings land on Tuesday, June 16: the Recreation Department, an informational meeting, the Finance Subcommittee, and the Disability Commission all convene. The Board of Health meets Wednesday, June 17. A public hearing docketed as P 63-26 is set for Monday, June 22. Times and agendas are posted at leominster-ma.gov.
SCHOOLS
The district homepage is displaying a prominent notice: "IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE FIRST STUDENT BUS STRIKE." No further detail was available from district web sources at press time; families should check leominsterps.org directly for service impacts and any schedule changes.
The end-of-year calendar continues in full swing regardless. Sky View Middle School's Team 8B holds its promotion ceremony Monday morning, June 16, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., with Team 8C following the same slot Tuesday, June 17. Samoset Middle School's 8th Grade Semi Formal runs Monday evening, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Separately, the Bennett Preschool waitlist for tuition-based peer slots for the 2026-2027 school year is now open to Leominster residents. Children must turn 3 by or before August 31, 2026; families can call the Bennett Preschool office at 978-534-7704.
